Clasroom Discussion For The 21st Century

This interactive four-hour citywide literacy conference will examine the importance of classroom discussion for 21st century learners. Participants will engage in speaking and listening practices which ignite imagination, foster deep discussion and support all students, including culturally and linguistically diverse learners. The instructional shifts necessary to transform teaching to include authentic learning and achieve the Next Generation Learning Standards will be explored.

• Examine the Next Generation Speaking and Listening Anchor Standards
and the emphasis on deepening comprehension, critical thinking
and engagement across content areas.
• Explore discussion routines to support thinking and learning for linguistically
and culturally diverse learners.
• Engage in classroom discussion strategies aligned with Next Generation
Learning Standards and 21st Century learning.
