Crossing Frontiers Crossing Across The American West

In this one-day conference for PreK-12 educators, participants will encounter authentic challenges faced by people
crossing the American frontier in different eras. Educators will use historical evidence to make connections and
comparisons between the past and present as they examine the mathematicalthinking used by explorers, engineers and travelers.

During the conference, participants will:

  • Use inquiry-based strategies to make authentic connections between the past and present.
  • Practice gathering, using and interpreting evidence with mathematicalcontent together with other sources.
  • Learn mathematical skills by exploring authentic problem-solving in historical contexts.
  • Experience inquiry-embedded, vocabulary-building experiences that increase the accessibility of content for all students
