1. Steering our Way through Academic Language and Vocabulary
How do we promote students’ academic vocabulary in a linguistically diverse classroom? In this session, participants will develop an awareness of the importance of academic vocabulary and language on students’ academic achievement. Opportunities will be provided to explore the principles of vocabulary instruction and experience vocabulary strategies and routines to provide access to the learning standards.

2. Our Journey: Knowing Our Students - Knowing Ourselves
How can we create a welcoming and affirming environment where both teachers and students can find themselves represented and reflected? How can we as educators create opportunities in our classrooms for students to become active participants in the learning process. In this session, participants will explore ways to promote a positive classroom atmosphere while reflecting on personal beliefs and using these experiences to capitalize on opportunities to help students grow academically and emotionally.

3. Empowering the Crew: Developing Self-Advocacy Skills in our Students
How do we as educators encourage students to advocate for themselves? In this session, participants will explore the “Blueprint for Improved Results for Students with Disabilities” and focus on the principle that addresses self-advocacy. Opportunities will be provided to develop strategies for fostering self-advocacy skills in students.

4. It’s All in the Perspective: Understanding the Cultural Diverse Learner
What do you know about culturally diverse learners in your classroom? The more you know about the cultures of your diverse learners, the better equipped you will be to help educate them. In this session, participants will explore the rationale for the shift in our instructional design to meet the needs of culturally diverse learners. Participants will also broaden their understanding of diversity and identify ways to address the needs of the culturally diverse learner.

5. Finding their Voice: Bringing History to Life!
How do we make history relevant to our culturally diverse learners? In this session,
participants will explore a range of historical and contemporary narratives. Participants will be invited to challenge sources and narratives that marginalize some voices in history. This session will provide participants with strategies to encourage students to think, write and speak about history in a way that is meaningful to them.

6. Welcoming Schools: Safe, Inclusive and Welcoming Schools for ALL Our Kids
What do you say to “That’s So Gay”? In this workshop, participants will learn practices and strategies that are affirming and welcoming for students’ whole selves, so they can successfully ease into learning each day.
