Meets: F from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

The promotion of students' welfare is one of the central professional and ethical responsibilities of school-based mental health professionals. However, some practitioners are subjected to pressure from administrators to engage in behavior that conflicts with ethical mandates and may be detrimental to students' well-being. This presentation will describe common forms of administrative pressure encountered by practicing school-based mental health professionals, articulate factors that may contribute to the emergence of these conflicts, and describe the negative occupational health outcomes associated with administrative pressure to practice unethically. Strategies will be offered for coping with pressure from administrators and honoring ethical responsibilities, while simultaneously maintaining productive relationships with others in the school system.
